Thomas Peake, 1969-2009

On Sept 21st, Thomas Peake died in a hiking accident in the Grand Canyon. Thomas was a critical force in WREK's history, having been part of a core group of students that in the 80's and early 90's reshaped the station into the current hybrid of iconoclastic disdain and yet reverential awe for music of all types, careening happily from punk rock to jazz to world to electronic. Thomas created the WREKology zine and, as an example, wrote Refreshingly Weird to describe WREK's philosphy.

We are seeking recordings of the bewildering array of shows (including dozens of Sunday Specials) that he did over the years. We plan to digitize these old shows and create an ongoing podcast of them. If you have any such old recordings (e.g. on cassette), please go to www.PeakeCast.org for more information and learn how you can help us retransmit Thomas' boundless energy to new audiences.

On Sunday, December 20th, Eyedrum will host a memorial concert to celebrate the life of Thomas. Guests confirmed so far include DQE, The Shaking Ray Levis, Flap, Gold Sparkle Family Band and San Agustin. See here and here for more information. There'll be boiled peanuts, so bring your appetite!
